Eric and Ted are joined by Krista Smith, the founder of Harlow’s Heroes, a nonprofit organization that supports retired and current canines. Krista shares her personal story of domestic violence and how her dog, Barrett, provided comfort and inspiration. She explains how Barrett’s legacy led her to start Harlow’s Heroes and discusses the organization’s mission and goals. Harlow’s Heroes is a 501(c)(3) organization that supports retired K9 units by providing them with medical care, nutritional support, and other resources. They also bridge the gap between K9 handlers and the community by educating the public about the dogs’ capabilities and clearing up misconceptions. Harlow’s Heroes offers free photo shoots for current K9 teams to capture their working moments and create lasting memories. They also raise funds for protective and training equipment for active K9 units. The organization advocates for legislation that recognizes the value of K9 units and provides restitution for injured or killed dogs. In this conversation, Krista from Harlow’s Heroes discusses her organization’s mission to support K9 units and their handlers. She shares how she started the organization, the impact it has had on the community, and the challenges she faces in fundraising.
