The gents discuss 30+ years’ worth of canine experiences; everything from Stoops taking out a loan to buy his first K9, to selecting, training, and successfully placing hundreds of canines for police agencies, government agencies (both at home, and abroad), and a lot of high speed groups that we can’t even mention! Stoops’ expertise has helped him develop many training philosophies utilized today in the working dog world. Stoops’ skill set also makes him a qualified expert witness with the United States Federal Courts on the subject of protection dogs, and an internationally recognized K9 subject matter expert assisting elite military units to implement working dog programs. ⁣

If that isn’t enough of a bragging right, Stoops is a recipient of a Presidential Award for exceptional K9 work, he’s a Security Specialist at several US Embassies abroad,  and a past publisher of two working dog magazines. Oh, and he is still currently working as a DOD K9 trainer.⁣

Lockerman’s K9 partner, Loki, is a four year old yellow lab 🦮 who is certified through NPWDA in narcotics, tracking, and article searches. The pair have been together since July 2018. Lockerman has been in patrol for over 6 years and has been tasked with the K9 unit for 3 years. When they are not working or attending community events, they enjoy their adventures with their family (consisting of five humans and six! dogs). Also, they are very big fans of UGA football, “Go Dawgs!” 😎🏈⁣

Your Working Dog Radio hosts, Eric @vanessk9 & Ted @ted_summers, sit down with Army 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment Corporal Joshua Hargis, who is also a two-time world champion Paralympic ice hockey player, Purple Heart and Bronze Star Metal with Valor recipient. ⁣

⁣

The gents talked about how B Company 3/75 is the best in the Ranger Regiment, and went on to discuss getting into K9 and deploying to Afghanistan. Hargis recounted an insane story from a harrowing mission that cost several guys, including Hargis’ MWD Jany, their lives and changed his forever. The night raid in Kandahar on Oct. 6, 2013 included multiple suicide bombers, and a minefield of IEDs – a baited ambush. After recovering MWD Jany’s remains, Hargis was recovering sensitive material from some of the Fallen, when he stepped on an IED, costing him both of his legs. Hargis was conscious for about an hour and a half as medics used tourniquets and pumped freeze-dried plasma into his veins. Soon after surgery in the hospital, Hargis was conscious enough to salute his commanding officer, despite the medical wrappings, tubes, and personnel who tried to restrain him; resulting in “the salute seen around the world”. ⁣

⁣

Hargis then talked about becoming an elite Paralympic athlete and how it helps him forget about his disability while he competes with his team; and sadly, how all of that is being ripped away from him due to COVID-19 mandates.⁣

Your Working Dog Radio hosts, Eric @vanessk9 & Ted @ted_summers, sit down with retired Combat Veteran of the US Air Force, founder and consultant at Olive Branch K9, LLC @olivebranchK9 and co-owner of Old Republic of Canine Apparel Company, Antonio Rodriguez. Rodriguez also serves as a Special Operations Canine Training Advisor for the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.⁣

⁣

Rodriguez completed his career in the Air Force as a Military Working Dog (MWD) Program Manager for 12 military units. Some of his highlights while on active duty include DoD MWD trainer, kennel master, unit trainer, pre-deployment canine team instructor, and special tactics member/instructor.⁣

⁣

After retiring in 2013, Rodriguez was employed by various private security firms supporting U.S. Treasury Department and U.S. State Department domestic and international security contracts.  During this period, he was assigned to the following positions: High-Threat Protection Security Specialist, ERT member, Canine Handler, Kennel Master, and Training Director.⁣

⁣

Following his time in the private contracting world, Rodriguez was employed by the DHS National Explosives Detection Canine Team Program. During this time, he served as unit Canine Trainer and Supervisor of Canine Operations for 11 TSA Passenger Screening Canine teams located at the Denver Airport.⁣

⁣

In 2018, Rodriguez left federal service to pursue other opportunities within the canine industry. For the past 25+ years, he has been instructing Law Enforcement, Military, Spectuial Operations personnel, and Private Military Contractors in the application of canine assets within the global security domain.⁣

⁣

Your Working Dog Radio hosts, Eric @vanessk9 & Ted @ted_summers, sit down with Raleigh Police K9 handler, Officer Michelle Lyman.

The gents talked with Lyman about policing in Raleigh, NC and what it’s like being a K9 handler there. Lyman has been with the department since 2004, and a handler since 2010. Lyman’s first K9, Kota, was a dual purpose patrol/narcotics K9. The pair worked together for almost a decade before K9 Kota retired. Lyman had a unique experience in that she worked two K9s at the same time; K9 Kota’s replacement, K9 Rocko, and single purpose explosive dog, K9 Peppers. Lyman explained K9 Rocko’s wash from the program, and her fourth partner, K9 Knox, who unexpected passed from bloat recently this year.

The gents chat about what it’s like being a handler and a K9 Sgt in Gwinette County Georgia (which has a population of 1 million), and get into tracking, which is their “bread and butter”. Doan also discusses back up officers, air support, and how they combat the elements in his unit of 10 full time dual purpose K9 teams. ⁣
